Free-spirited Elizabeth Foster turned her back on her father's photography business to pursue musical theater, but a career on the stage remains second to a career behind the camera. The possibility of a one-show contract means she's a few weeks from unemployment forcing her home, and her dreams of pursuing professional photography reemerge. With photography and theater opportunities unfolding before her, Elizabeth faces her biggest challenge yet—listening to her heart.

Meanwhile, sought-after photographer Ryan Callahan has put his career on hold to help his sister's family, but the promise of a bigger assignment could lure him away so he can begin building a family of his own. With professional opportunities and personal obligations pulling at him, Ryan faces his toughest challenge—balancing family, relationships, and work.

If given the choice, what dreams would develop for Elizabeth and Ryan? And will they learn to trust each other enough to focus on love?

Excerpt on the Book Tour

“Hey, guys, come check this out.”

Soon they were surrounded by other actors and actresses, some in costume and others just arriving backstage. As Liz again explained the task their director had given her, Trent arrived.

He took his turn looking through the images. “Not bad.”

Certainly not the gushing praise of the others that boosted her confidence, but definitely a more favorable response than Jerry or her dad had ever given her.

Trent handed her camera back. “But I think you need more than just these two lovebirds. What do you say, gang? Think we could help Liz?”

Within minutes, she had almost tripled the number of pictures on her memory card with a variety of solo and group shots. One of the actors suggested they silently sneak onto the stage itself since the curtain was down and the audience was making plenty of noise while eating their dinners. Soon she had close to live-action images, taken with the large props and backdrop, to add to her collection.
The buzz of energy grew each time the shutter clicked as Liz sank deeper into a creative zone. How was it possible to have such laser-targeted focus on her subjects that her camera almost became a natural extension of her imagination?

She hadn’t felt such freedom in years.

A movement in the wings to her right caught her attention and she quickly shifted her focus toward a different gathering of actors watching the onstage fun. The shadows from the curtains created an interesting visual element. As the shutter whirred, she could almost imagine some of the shots in black and white or with a sepia filter.

Then the backstage speaker crackled to life with the typical warning call to preshow. With just fifteen minutes until the curtain rose, her photographic subjects scattered to finish getting ready for the opening number.

Liz trailed behind them to the dressing room, pensive. What had happened back there?

“I know the plans I have for you.”

Was it a sign that God wanted her behind the camera? Or had she instead felt the energy of the stage?

She turned off the camera to preserve the remaining battery and zipped it away in its padded bag. Turning toward the wall of mirrors to check her costume and makeup, her mind drifted to the photographer out among the audience.

What kind of shots had the cowboy been able to take in the dimly lit auditorium? Or was he focusing his photographic audition on the production itself? Would he enjoy the show?

But more importantly, would his pictures be better than hers?
